The Guru’s Sandals (Padukas)
The Guru’s Sandals, or padukas, are a sacred symbol of the Guru’s grace. They represent guidance, wisdom, and spiritual transformation.
In Indian spiritual traditions, devotees hold the feet of great beings in deep reverence. The scriptures speak of divine grace flowing through these sacred feet. Therefore, the padukas remind us of the Guru’s presence and blessings.
The deeper meaning of the Guru’s Sandals appears in Swami Kripananda’s book, The Guru’s Sandals: Threshold of the Formless. Likewise, the Guru Paduka Panchakam honours the Guru’s feet through five sacred verses. Devotees traditionally sing these verses at the beginning of the Guru Gita.
Crafted in brass, these padukas make a beautiful addition to your puja table. They create a sacred space for prayer, devotion, and reflection. Above all, they serve as a timeless reminder of the Guru’s grace and guidance.
